AGM 2021 Results Press Release

Dear Members,

At the AGM 2021, chaired by Dr Ali AlBadri, members reviewed the work of the Al-Kindi Society of Engineers during the period 2020–2021, including the Society’s activities, governance matters, financial report, membership developments, and plans for the following year.

The AGM reviewed the minutes of the Annual General Meeting held in June 2020. Members were asked to consider and vote on the following resolution:

Resolution 1:
That the minutes of the Annual General Meeting held in June 2020 be received and approved.

The Board of Trustees presented its report for 2020–2021, including an overview of the Society’s activities, opportunities, challenges, and future plans. Despite the restrictions and difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Society continued to serve its members and the wider engineering community through online engagement.

During the reporting period, Al-Kindi organised approximately 20 virtual events and conferences, maintaining its programme of professional, technical, educational, and community-focused activities. The Board expressed its appreciation to all speakers, organisers, volunteers, members, and supporters who contributed to the success of these activities.

The Financial Report for the year ending 31 December 2020 was presented to members. Members were asked to consider and vote on the following resolution:

Resolution 2:
That the Financial Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2020 be received and considered.

The AGM was also informed that the Board of Trustees had received the resignations of Mr Usama Mohamad and Mr Hassan Mohamad on 24 May 2021 and 25 May 2021 respectively. The Board recorded its thanks and appreciation for their service and contribution to the Society.

Following the Board’s email to members dated 24 June 2021, the Board received an application from Fellow Member Mr Muther Al-Mufty to join the Board. Mr Al-Mufty was invited to join the Board as an appointed member, and members were asked to consider and vote on the following resolution:

Resolution 3:
To endorse the Board of Trustees’ appointment of Mr Muther Al-Mufty as a Board member for one year, until AGM 2022.

The Board also received an application from new student member Mr Amer Ali. Mr Ali was invited to join as a volunteer in order to learn more about Al-Kindi Society of Engineers and its operations.

The AGM welcomed new Honorary Fellows and members, and provided an open forum for members to share comments, questions, and suggestions regarding the Society’s work and future direction.

The Board also presented its plans for 2021–2022, including continuing the Society’s programme of professional and educational events, improving communication with members, encouraging wider participation, supporting students and early-career engineers, and developing collaboration with other organisations.

With this, the AGM closed after reviewing the Society’s activities during a challenging year and reaffirming Al-Kindi’s commitment to serving its members, the engineering profession, and the wider community.
