The Al-Kindi Society of Engineers held its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 8 November 2025, at Dar Al-Salam Hall, Salam House, Humanitarian Dialogue Foundation, London, coinciding with a special symposium marking the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Society.
The event marked an important occasion in the Society’s journey, providing an opportunity to reflect on three decades of professional, educational, and community contributions in the United Kingdom and Iraq. The programme included a presentation by the Society’s President, Dr Laith Al-Jubouri, outlining the Society’s journey since its establishment and highlighting key conferences, activities, training courses, and initiatives organised by the Society over the past thirty years.
The second part of the programme, moderated by Dr Alaa Alani, former President of the Society, focused on the challenges facing the Society and other civil society organisations operating in the UK. Members and fellow engineers engaged in constructive discussions on how to improve the Society’s work, strengthen its services to members and the wider community, and enhance its role in supporting engineers, particularly younger members.
The AGM was held as an information and consultation meeting for members. No elections were held, and no resolutions were proposed or voted on. The purpose of the meeting was to listen to members’ views, identify priorities, and prepare for a wider AGM in 2026.
During the meeting, members discussed the future direction of the Society and agreed on several key priorities for the next stage of work. These included maintaining the Society’s focus on both the UK and Iraq, preserving the current legal structure as a Company Limited by Guarantee, giving greater attention to funding and long-term sustainability, and organising more physical events for members in the UK.
The AGM also emphasised the importance of increasing member engagement, encouraging wider participation from engineers and professionals, and strengthening links between engineers in the UK and Iraq. The Society will take these views into consideration as it prepares its future plans and develops proposals for presentation to members at the 2026 AGM.
As we look forward to the future, the Al-Kindi Society of Engineers remains committed to serving its members, supporting the engineering community, and building on thirty years of contribution, cooperation, and professional service.

بيان موجز عن الاجتماع العام السنوي لعام 2025
عقدت جمعية الكندي للمهندسين اجتماعها العام السنوي لعام 2025 يوم السبت الموافق 8 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2025، في قاعة دار السلام، مؤسسة الحوار الإنساني في لندن، وذلك بالتزامن مع ندوة خاصة بمناسبة الذكرى السنوية الثلاثين لتأسيس الجمعية.
وقد شكّل هذا الحدث مناسبة مهمة في مسيرة الجمعية، حيث أتاح الفرصة لاستعراض ثلاثة عقود من العطاء المهني والتعليمي والمجتمعي في المملكة المتحدة والعراق. وتضمن البرنامج عرضاً قدمه رئيس الجمعية، الدكتور ليث الجبوري، تناول فيه مسيرة الجمعية منذ تأسيسها، وسلط الضوء على أهم المؤتمرات والأنشطة والدورات التدريبية والمبادرات التي نظمتها الجمعية خلال السنوات الثلاثين الماضية.
أما الجزء الثاني من البرنامج، والذي أداره الدكتور علاء العاني، الرئيس السابق للجمعية، فقد ركّز على مناقشة التحديات التي تواجه الجمعية وغيرها من منظمات المجتمع المدني العاملة في المملكة المتحدة. وشارك الأعضاء والزملاء المهندسون في مناقشات بنّاءة حول سبل تطوير عمل الجمعية، وتحسين خدماتها للأعضاء والمجتمع، وتعزيز دورها في دعم المهندسين، ولا سيما الأعضاء الشباب.
وقد عُقد الاجتماع العام السنوي بصفته اجتماعاً إعلامياً وتشاورياً للأعضاء. ولم تُجرَ خلاله أي انتخابات، كما لم تُطرح أي قرارات رسمية للتصويت. وكان الهدف من الاجتماع الاستماع إلى آراء الأعضاء، وتحديد الأولويات، والتحضير لاجتماع عام سنوي أوسع في عام 2026.
وناقش الأعضاء خلال الاجتماع التوجهات المستقبلية للجمعية، وتم الاتفاق على عدد من الأولويات الرئيسية للمرحلة القادمة، شملت استمرار تركيز الجمعية على الساحتين البريطانية والعراقية، والإبقاء على الهيكل القانوني الحالي للجمعية كشركة محدودة بالضمان، وإيلاء مزيد من الاهتمام لقضايا التمويل والاستدامة طويلة الأمد، وتنظيم المزيد من الفعاليات الحضورية لأعضاء الجمعية في المملكة المتحدة.
كما أكد الاجتماع أهمية زيادة مشاركة الأعضاء، وتشجيع مساهمة أوسع من المهندسين والمهنيين، وتعزيز الروابط بين المهندسين في المملكة المتحدة والعراق. وستأخذ الجمعية هذه الآراء بعين الاعتبار عند إعداد خططها المستقبلية وتطوير المقترحات التي ستُعرض على الأعضاء في الاجتماع العام السنوي لعام 2026.
وبينما نتطلع إلى المستقبل، تؤكد جمعية الكندي للمهندسين التزامها المستمر بخدمة أعضائها، ودعم المجتمع الهندسي، والبناء على ثلاثين عاماً من العطاء والتعاون والخدمة المهنية.
