Al-Kindi AGM Press Release 2020

Dear Colleagues,

Al-Kindi Society of Engineers in the United Kingdom (Al Kindi) held its twenty-sixth annual general
meeting on Saturday, 20 June 2020 via videoconference due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was attended by 29 members of Al-Kindi and was opened by Dr Alaa Alani – Chair
of the Society, who welcomed the distinguished guests and presented the administrative report
for the past year.

Usama Mohamad, Financial Secretary presented the financial report for the past year – and the
administrative and financial reports were approved by members respectively.

Members participated in discussion and offered some ideas to develop work and improve
performance in the future.

An electronic voting system was used this year due to COVID-19 and the social distancing
measures that were in place which prevented a physical-vote. The following colleagues were
elected to the society’s Board of Trustees for the next two years:

Mr Haval Kadhem
Mr Kadhum Alsarraj
Mr Usama Mohamad
Dr Ali Al-Badri
Mr Hassan Mohamad

At the end of the meeting, the members present were thanked for their efforts in supporting the
society in developing and adding value to engineering across many areas.

The newly elected Board of Trustees held their first meeting on Saturday, 27 June, 2020 and are
pleased to publish the following roles and responsibilities for each Trustee:

Mr Haval Kadhem – Membership, Fellowship and Outreach
Mr Kadhum Alsarraj – Marketing, Publication and Digital services
Dr. Ali Al-Badri – Training and Professional Services (Consulting)
Mr Hassan Mohamad – Finance and Corporate Governance
Mr Usama Mohamad – Strategy and Development

Mr Usama Mohamad was also elected as Chair of Al-Kindi Society of Engineers in the United
Kingdom.

The Board of Trustees discussed the underrepresentation of female colleagues on the Board in
great length and there was unanimous agreement on the importance of diversity and inclusion in
the management and membership of the society and engineering generally.

Trustees agreed to undertake initiatives to address this issue and ensure representation of female
colleagues in leadership positions of the society’s committees and other key positions during the
current and the successive terms.
