SUMMARY:Renewable energy developments in Latin America: Chilean experience
DESCRIPTION:Over the last few years\, Chile has become a hotspot for renewable energy developments in the world. New renewable energy sources attracted cumulative investment of $14.8 billion between 2010-19 with their share of installed capacity rising from 5% in 2014 to 28% by May 2021. According to Climatescope 2020 by Bloomberg New Energy Finance\, Chile is ranked first among the most attractive countries for investing in renewable energy out of 108 emerging countries and 29 developed countries. The National Energy Policy 2050 sets a goal of meeting 60% of the country’s electricity generation with renewables by 2035 and 70% by 2050. In this context\, Dr. Nasirov will discuss the successful experience of Chile in renewable energy development\, highlighting key driving factors and the future targets.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the speaker \n\n\n\nDr. Shahriyar Nasirov is an Associate Professor and Academic Director of Executive Master program in Renewable Energies at the Faculty of Engineering and Science\, Universidad Adolfo Ibañez (UAI) in Chile. Besides\, He is an Associate Researcher at the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC-Chile) funded by the Government of Chile and the European REMIND project\, Horizon 2020 funded by the European Commission.
