The Al-Kindi Society of Engineers held its 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) digitally on July 9, 2023, marking a significant milestone in our journey. With 16 dedicated members in attendance, the outgoing committee presented a comprehensive review, including the annual report and financial statements for the year ending on December 31, 2022, as well as an interim financial summary for the first half of 2023.
The AGM extended its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the outgoing President, Dr. Ali AlBadri, and the outgoing management committee for their services to the Al-Kindi during the difficult pandemic period. During this AGM, members engaged in meaningful discussions regarding the ongoing challenges and opportunities for the Al-Kindi Society, including attracting new members and volunteers. The AGM listened to extensive viewpoints and options presented by members in relation to the leadership and organizational structure for Al-Kindi, and it was agreed that the new committee will study these options and return to members with proposals and plans later.
The AGM voted Dr. Laith Al-Jobouri as the President-elect and recommended the continued service of the outgoing committee members, who graciously agreed to continue to serve on the committee. Furthermore, the AGM recommended the onboarding of 2 or 3 additional members to the management committee, to ensure a diverse and dynamic team.
Following the conclusion of the handover period, which ended on September 30, 2023, the new management committee officially assumes their new positions as follows:
- Laith Al-Jobouri (President)
- Widad Oumar (Head of Membership and Social Activities)
- Kadhum Al Sarraj (Head of Magazine and Publications)
As we look forward to the future, we are actively seeking 2-3 dedicated volunteers to join our board in various roles, including:
- Events and Activities Coordinator
- Fundraising and Finance Coordinator
- Website and Social Media Coordinator
We extend a warm invitation to both our esteemed members and non-members who are interested in contributing to serving our engineering community in the UK. This is a great opportunity for young professionals to broaden their management and organizational skills. As a member of the Management Committee, you are typically expected to allocate 4-6 hours per month, including attendance at committee meetings once per month. The final selection will conclude by October 31, 2023.
