Objectives: This workshop is designed to examine an approach that is called “Lean” in the Japanese experience. The importance of this approach both as a philosophy and as a method of “operations planning and control” will be discussed. Lean consideration and elements as a radical departure from traditional operations practice will be clarified. The Kanban system will be described.  A comparison between Japanese and western experience will be thoroughly covered.

Who Should Attend? This workshop is intended for anyone interested in the Japanese experience and philosophy from both engineering and managerial aspects. Moreover, it is most suited for engineers working in production and management positions, and will also be very useful for engineers working in various industrial, planning and managerial sectors, general managers and postgraduate students in industrial engineering and engineering management.

    • Eight Types of Waste or Muda,
    • Continuous Improvement with Lean Systems.
  • Supply Chain Considerations in Lean Systems.
  • Process Considerations in Lean Systems:
  • Pull Versus Push Method of Workflow (LEAN),
  • Quality at the Source: (Jidoka and Poka-Yoke).
  • Uniform Workstation Loads
    • Takt-Time,
    • Heijunka,
    • Mixed-model assembly.
  • Standardized Components and Work Methods.
  • Flexible Workforce.
  • Automation.
  • 5S.
  • Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM).
  • Kanban system.

Duration: Half day training course arranged via Zoom as 4 x 50 minute sessions.

  • 10 minutes break
  • Session 4: 17:10 – 18:00
