The Iraqi Embassy in London jointly with The Arab British Chamber of Commerce has organised a 2-day conference on trade and investment in Iraq at the Millennium Gloucester hotel in London for the period 3-4 July 2017. The conference which was widely attended by Iraqi and British delegates from both public and private sectors, had a wide scope of sessions covering oil and gas, transport, banking, health, industry and others. A large number of senior managers of foreign – mainly British companies expressed their support to the Iraqi efforts towards restoring confidence in Iraq’s economy through serious steps to transform the economy to market economy, and encourage the private investment in the infrastructure projects in Iraq.
It is important to mention that the UK Government has recently allocated a massive ten billion pounds loan to Iraq to invest in infrastructure projects, and commissioned an expert body to draw a plan and to oversee the execution of such vital projects in the near future.
Over the two days, there were six workshops organized after the sessions to focus on specific sectors and to identify the main challenges facing development and investment. A number of of Alkindi Society’s management committee members have attended the conference, and discussed ways to contribute and play a supporting role in the development of engineering sectors in Iraq. Alkindi Society would like to thank His Excellency Dr. Salih Altamimi – The Iraqi Ambassador to the UK and the embassy staff for their hard work and dedication to organise such a successful conference.
